BIBLE CONNECTIONS

The Scriptures are Precious and Transforming

The Church has been given the privilege and responsibility to share and teach the Word of God. Jesus commissioned the Church to make disciples and teach them to obey all that he commanded (Matt. 28:18-30). It is the Church that has the responsibility to equip the Church to serve as his body throughout the generations (Eph 4:11-13). There is no other institution that is empowered to successfully accomplish this responsibility.

We believe the Spirit has given us a special opportunity for the Church in East County to recapture the love of good biblical teaching and carry the Scriptures forward, unaltered, to future generations. With this in mind, our goal is to provide high-level, intentional Bible training and discipleship to Jesus Followers. We plan to achieve this through courses on biblical books and life-transforming concepts that will help students learn to read, understand, and respond to the Scriptures, and pass them on to others.

Currently, our plan is to teach five courses over the next year—two courses in the fall, two in the spring, and a half-length course in late spring.

Why the name “Bible Connections”?

The purpose of the Bible is not only to inform us about God and his kingdom plan for all humanity. More essentially, it is designed to transform us. That transformation of our thinking comes through a series of connecting relationships.

  • Connecting our own minds with God.

He has strategically given us a book, the Bible, which draws us into deeper relationship with him. Simply put, the goal of Bible reading is to connect more deeply with God, both in our minds and in our hearts.

  • Connecting God’s truths communicated in the Bible to the particular context and situations of my own personal life.

Seeing that relevance is crucial to receiving the Bible as it is intended.

  • Connecting with all God’s people.

As we identify the truth claims made within the text, the differences of age, race, gender, cultural history, etc. can be re-envisioned as we strive for unity within the greater body of all believers globally and throughout history.

  • Connecting individual passages to the larger biblical contexts in which they are found.

Nearly every interpretive error stems from not considering the broader contexts of paragraph, section, chapter, book, and the entire collection (canon) of Scripture. Developing an increasing skill at seeing these connections gives clarity and coherence to what we read.

  • Connecting our entire view of the world.

As we gain a more comprehensive understanding of the Bible, we become more adept at accurately perceiving the world around us, both its brokenness and the path to its redemption. As our thinking becomes less fragmented and more integrated, we find purpose and direction.

Bible Connections is an adult learning experience devoted to training believers in how to read the Bible with growing skill and reverence for what God is actually saying in the text. It is designed to enrich our walk with God and in communicating God’s truths to others in meaningful ways.
